Drawing from the landscape literally and figuratively, the works begin with a chord of hues, a set of colors either transposed from observation or otherwise built around the dynamic exchange of an initial pair. Neither depictions nor direct expressions, the pieces evolve/emerge as improvisational poems, arising more from the desire to engage in the act of making than to hold the finished artifact.

Core to the work is the way formal elements may be arranged that will ultimately transform the materials while simultaneously making no secret of the components themselves. The surface is embraced as both window and object. Intimately collecting feedback from the picture plane, each interaction serves to encourage the ingredients to cohere into independent entities with their own voice and volition.

As part of nature we create architecture and then as nature, inhabit it. We move through familiar spaces no longer by rigorous perception but through an intuitive awareness shaped by memory. The recollection of the feeling of a place. A palimpsest of beings in a room or a landscape. A space is defined and furnished with ornamentation. How many different ways can we dance to this tune?
